It may be a simple procedure, but copying a large number of files can be very frustrating if it takes too long. Certain file managers include faster copying engines, but if you prefer to use Windows Explorer, you can install Ultracopier. It is capable of copying or moving data much faster than any conventional tool. You can pause and resume, while copying, set up speed limits and much more.

The application is free and open source and it takes about a minute to download and install. You can use it on Windows 2000 and any later edition, up to Windows 7 (32 or 64-bit). There are no special requirements to meet, so you can run Ultracopier right away.

Ultracopier replaces the standard Windows copying engine automatically. While the application is running, you may copy your files as usual and you will see a different progress window, with additional controls. You may disable this feature at any time and return to the standard engine, just by clicking Ultracopier's system tray icon.

Alternatively, you may right click the system tray icon and select an option for adding a copying, transferring or moving task. These options will bring up the same replacement window, but you will be able to make various settings, before copying any data. The window can be extended to reveal various options, on separate tabs.

Besides selecting the source files and a destination folder, you may set a speed limit, select a certain action, in case of file collisions or copy errors (ask, overwrite and others), set the application to keep the file dates, do a checksum and much more. These settings can be made at any time, even while copying files. It is also possible to display a slider, for controlling the speed, beneath the progress bars. This allows you to increase or decrease the speed limit at any time, without extending the window.

You can add any number of files and folders to the application's copy list. It is possible to prioritize the files by moving them up or down in the list. What's more, you can save the list as a file and load it at a later date.

Pros

The software allows you to copy or move data much faster. You can pause the process at any time, set up speed limits, set the application to perform a certain action in case of file collisions or copy errors. Ultracopier can also replace the standard Windows copying engine, so you may use the application by copying files as usual.

Cons

There are no serious drawbacks to encounter. When it comes to copying or moving data, Ultracopier is much faster and more flexible than any traditional file manager.
